Zodia Custody Wins Luxembourg Licence to Move EU Stablecoins

The licence lets Zodia custody EU-designated stablecoins within a single regulated framework that simplifies bank settlement and treasury operations.

Overview

  • Zodia Custody announced on Tuesday that Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier granted it a Payment Institution licence to support custody and transfer of Electronic Money Tokens, the stablecoin category under MiCA.
  • The new licence complements Zodia’s December 2025 MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorisation so the firm can both safekeep crypto assets and execute regulated transfers of EMTs across the EU.
  • Zodia says the combined approvals let institutions use one provider for custody and EMT transfers, which reduces the operational fragmentation and counterparty exposure created by stitching together multiple vendors.
  • Standard Chartered has offered to absorb Zodia’s regulated client-facing custody business and to spin off the platform infrastructure as a separate SaaS unit called Zodia Solutions, but that reorganisation remains subject to regulatory and stakeholder approvals.
  • Zodia’s expanded EU footing builds on licences in the UK, UAE, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia and positions the firm to meet growing bank demand for regulated stablecoin services while intensifying competition with legacy custodians and crypto-native players.
