Zinger Sells for Record $1.5 Million at Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

Proceeds bolster student scholarships under a $30 million education commitment for 2026.

Overview

  • Trinity River Land & Cattle Co. bought the Grand Champion steer, Zinger, for $1.5 million; the animal was exhibited by Mason Grady of Grandview.
  • The Reserve Grand Champion steer, Ryan, sold for $750,000 to Barbara and Don Jordan, Laura and Steve McNear, and Lisa and Chris Cunningham.
  • Exhibitor Jett Hale of Miami FFA earned his third Reserve Grand Champion showing, following honors last year and in 2018.
  • Steer auction proceeds support winners’ college costs and the rodeo’s educational fund, part of more than $660 million committed to Texas youth since 1932 and $30 million designated for 2026.
  • The sale extends an upward trend after then-record $1 million steers in 2022 and 2024 at the Houston rodeo’s Junior Market Steer Auction.
