Overview
- French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will take part in a dedicated Ukraine discussion at the G7 on Tuesday, June 16.
- The G7 leaders meet in Évian-les-Bains from June 15–17 and include France, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and the European Union.
- France has shaped the summit to prioritize crisis management on both Ukraine and the U.S.-Iran Middle East war and has lowered expectations for sweeping new agreements to keep the group united.
- Macron invited regional Arab states—Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Egypt—and non-G7 partners such as Brazil, India, Kenya and South Korea to join targeted sessions on mediation and regional security.
- The summit is meant to press the United States for a reset on Ukraine policy, widen burden sharing with partners, and signal that European states may deepen their own security and economic options if transatlantic differences persist.
