ZDF to Reopen Five Missing-Person Cases in Special After Bone Identification in Dresden

Police hope Wednesday’s televised appeal will bring public tips that could push stalled investigations forward.

Overview

  • ZDF will air a live 'Aktenzeichen XY... Vermisst' special on July 8, 2026 to present five unresolved disappearances and ask viewers for information.
  • In spring 2026 forensic experts matched a human bone found below Dresden’s Begerburg to Corina Niemand, leading investigators to treat her as likely deceased while leaving accident, suicide and homicide as open possibilities.
  • One of the cases to be featured is Alexander Bohnert, who was filmed leaving home after a night shift on April 3, 2024 and has had no confirmed sightings or new leads since then.
  • Other cold cases in the broadcast include Sebastian Geier, who vanished in 2021 and was later shown to have phone contacts with people named 'Herrmann' and 'Rosi', Jutta Schulz who disappeared in 2014, and Luca (Alishia) Bucher from Switzerland whose investigators no longer exclude homicide.
  • Police say the show has produced useful public leads in the past and are asking anyone with information to contact the relevant local forces so families can gain answers and investigators can follow new lines of inquiry.
