Zócalo Metro Station Closed Until Further Notice After CNTE March

The shutdown has left reopening uncertain and adds pressure to Line 2 works officials aim to finish before the 2026 World Cup.

Overview

  • Metro director Adrián Rubalcava announced on Monday that Zócalo/Tenochtitlan station on Line 2 is closed "until further notice" because of an external event.
  • Reporters identified the external event as a national march by the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación, which moved along Paseo de la Reforma toward the Zócalo.
  • Metrobús Line 7 suspended service on Reforma on the morning of the march, and city lanes were closed for the protesters, disrupting bus and tram routes into the historic center.
  • The Line 2 corridor is already under accelerated rehabilitation covering 19 stations, with a recent Taxqueña–San Antonio Abad suspension and free RTP shuttle buses offered between Taxqueña and Pino Suárez.
  • Authorities have provided nearby station alternatives and travel advisories, and officials warn the protest could install a plantón or extend its presence, which would prolong disruptions just weeks before the World Cup.
