ZA/UM to Cut Up to 32 Jobs After Zero Parades Falls Short Commercially

The studio says weak sales after its May release forced it to shrink staff and that it consulted the ZA/UM Workers' Alliance during the process.

Overview

  • ZA/UM announced on Friday that it has served redundancy or at‑risk notices affecting up to 32 employees because Zero Parades: For Dead Spies did not generate the revenue the studio needed.
  • If the union‑reported headcount of roughly 100 people still stands, the notices would amount to about one‑third of the company and cover roles across all departments.
  • ZA/UM said it worked with representatives from the ZA/UM Workers' Alliance while carrying out the process and asked other developers to consider hiring affected staff.
  • The layoffs are the latest chapter in years of turmoil at the studio, which has seen the ouster of key Disco Elysium creatives, legal battles, earlier 2024 layoffs, and staff unionization in October 2025.
  • Observers point to damaged fan trust over the studio's leadership as a likely factor in weak sales, and a PlayStation 5 version of Zero Parades is reportedly planned for later in 2026.
