Youth Champions Crowned at Augusta’s Drive, Chip and Putt Finals

The televised Augusta showcase underscores the club’s push to draw more children into golf.

Overview

  • Eight division titles went to Roy Moon, Stephen Sanders, Texas Terry, Arno Wehle, Riley Huang, Ava Chen, Lucy Cui, and Nirvika Koduru.
  • Ava Chen won the Girls 10–11 title by holing a 15-foot putt in a playoff over Perri Harris, the granddaughter of Kenny Perry who lost the 2009 Masters in a playoff to Angel Cabrera.
  • About 80 boys and girls competed at Augusta National in a final shown live on Golf Channel.
  • Six-year-old Sophia Eagan became the event’s youngest qualifier, and Lucy Cui was the first in Girls 12–13 to make both putts.
  • Now in its 12th year, the program began in 2014 to spark kids’ interest in golf, with most finalists earning spots more than six months earlier.
