Young Boy Killed on N59 Near Crossmolina After Being Struck by Car

The Garda Forensic Collision unit has opened an active investigation and is seeking witness statements plus camera footage from 10:40–11:40am.

Overview

  • A male child was struck by a car on the N59 at Eskeragh, Crossmolina and was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday, 21 June 2026.
  • Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have preserved the scene and are carrying out a detailed on-site examination while local traffic diversions remain in place.
  • The boy’s body was taken to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital and the local coroner has been notified ahead of a post-mortem examination.
  • Authorities have asked anyone travelling through or near Eskeragh between 10:40am and 11:40am on 21 June 2026 to provide dash-cam or other camera footage and to contact Ballina Garda Station on (096) 20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
  • The investigation is ongoing and Gardaí are appealing for witness accounts to establish the full circumstances and next steps for the case.
