Yellow Alerts Cover Argentina and Mexico as Zonda, Strong Gusts and Intense Rains Threaten Regions

Meteorological services warn that high winds, abrupt temperature rises and localized heavy rain raise the risk of damage and travel disruption.

Overview

  • Argentina’s Servicio Meteorológico Nacional has active yellow alerts that include very strong westerly gusts in Neuquén, Río Negro and Chubut and a targeted Zonda warning for Salta’s valleys with gusts locally above 65 km/h.
  • The SMN said Zonda winds in Salta can bring rapid temperature jumps, very low humidity and reduced visibility, and it advised people to secure loose objects, avoid sheltering under signs or trees, and take care when driving.
  • On June 20 Mexico’s Conagua/SMN forecast intense, localized rainfall for Nayarit, Jalisco and Zacatecas with other regions facing heavy storms and 50–70 km/h gusts in parts of the northeast.
  • Spain’s AEMET-based local forecasts reported by Faro de Vigo show mostly dry, warm and humid conditions across many Galician municipalities for the same day, underscoring regional contrast in hazards.
  • Authorities stress short-term vigilance: yellow alerts signal possible damage or brief disruption, officials urge following official channels for updates and taking the recommended precautions where alerts are in force.
