Overview
- This weekend, injuries to Aaron Judge (fractured right rib) and Trent Grisham (right hamstring strain) left the Yankees short in the outfield and handed Jasson Domínguez a regular job in right field.
- Domínguez has very limited prior right-field experience, having started one Triple-A game in 2024 and three more this season before the major-league move.
- On the field he has shown both upside and mistakes: he overran a liner but made a difficult catch on another play, and he rushed an errant throw that prevented a potential inning-ending double play.
- Manager Aaron Boone called Domínguez “pretty good” while calling him a work in progress, outfield instructor Luis Rojas said the position will suit Domínguez’s tools, and Domínguez himself said right field feels more natural though he is still learning.
- The Yankees are tolerating short-term growing pains because of Domínguez’s speed and arm, but the club could pursue an additional outfielder before the Aug. 3 deadline if Judge and Grisham remain sidelined and the defensive issues continue.
