Yangwang U9 Xtreme Becomes First Production EV to Lap Nürburgring in Under 7 Minutes

The officially listed 6:59.157 lap elevates BYD’s Yangwang brand into direct contention with Xiaomi and Porsche on benchmark leaderboards.

Overview

  • The U9 Xtreme’s 6:59.157 Nordschleife time, set by German driver Moritz Kranz in August, is now recorded on the Nürburgring official best list after public disclosure in October.
  • The lap beats the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s series time by more than five seconds and is quicker than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, placing the Yangwang eighth among production cars overall behind the Porsche 911 GT3.
  • Yangwang classifies the car as a production model through a 30‑unit limited run, positioning the result as a series-production EV record.
  • The attempt used track-focused hardware including a titanium brake system, upgraded cooling for sustained loads, semi‑slick Giti tires developed for the Nordschleife, and active DiSus‑X suspension.
  • The model runs on a 1200‑volt platform with four motors delivering over 3000 PS, and BYD also reports a separate 496.22 km/h top‑speed run at Papenburg in September as a manufacturer claim.
