Xunta Clears A Guía Access as Vigo Mayor Says Elduayen Tunnel Remains Stalled Over Bird Colony

City hall plans to submit the requested environmental paperwork within days to try to unlock the halted works.

Overview

  • The mayor says the regional government authorized the humanization of access to the A Guía hermitage after months of delay and after the Xunta’s Vigo delegate accused him of lying about the permit.
  • Abel Caballero alleges the Elduayen tunnel was left without a reply for six months before the Xunta rejected the request citing a bird colony near Paseo de Alfonso.
  • He says the new response imposes additional conditions and contends the Xunta previously insisted the work could start despite lacking the required authorization.
  • The Concello reports it is preparing the documentation demanded under the environmental criteria and expects to send it in very few days.
  • Other Vigo projects remain on hold pending autonomous approvals, including the Gran Vía mechanical ramps halted since August 29 and the reinforcement of Praza do Rei, as the mayor attributes the delays to political motives.
