Overview
- XREAL announced a new sub-brand called X By XREAL (XBX) and launched the a01 display glasses, which are on sale in China and slated to arrive in the U.S. in July starting at $299.
- The a01 is a tethered, display-focused device that drops onboard battery, cameras and degrees-of-freedom tracking to keep the unit light and cheap.
- XREAL claims the a01 uses dual MicroOLED panels with HDR10 and a peak perceived brightness of 1,600 nits, a 50° field of view and a weight of about 62 grams to deliver a “pocket cinema” experience.
- The company highlights software-led features including a dedicated image enhancement chip, real-time AI SDR-to-HDR conversion and an ‘industry-first’ spatial anti-shake algorithm intended to stabilize video during commutes without washing out color.
- XREAL is pitching customization and comfort with interchangeable front frames and released CAD files for 3D printing, and the move lowers its entry price into a category now competing with other $299 display glasses while independent hands-on reviews and long-term comfort testing are still pending.
