Xpeng Sets 2026–27 Timelines for Robots, Robotaxis and ‘Flying’ Cars

The shift reflects a hunt for growth abroad driven by a cooling home market.

Overview

  • Xpeng, in remarks to Reuters on Thursday, said it expects large-scale output of its ‘flying’ cars in 2027 and first deliveries of its humanoid robots in the fourth quarter of 2026.
  • The company plans to begin robotaxi trials in Guangzhou in 2026 and expects to build hundreds to thousands of purpose-built robotaxis over the next 12 to 18 months, with 2027 set up as a key year for partner-led tests in more markets.
  • Orders for the flying vehicle have topped 7,000, mostly from China, and the company is seeking approval from Chinese aviation authorities before wider rollout.
  • Overseas sales produced about 15% of revenue in 2025, and the company, which now sells in roughly 60 countries, is targeting more than half of revenue from outside China within five to ten years.
  • Executives framed the push as a response to a fierce price war and an 18% drop in China’s first-quarter car sales, and said there is room to deepen cooperation with Volkswagen to help scale its technology.
