Xpeng Recasts Itself as a 'Physical AI' Firm With Robotaxi Trials Imminent and Humanoid Production in 2026

Executives say in-house AI, including the Turing chip, will differentiate the brand in China’s price war.

Overview

  • At a Guangzhou event, CEO He Xiaopeng said street testing of Xpeng robotaxis will start “very soon,” with humanoid robot mass production targeted for the second half of 2026.
  • Xpeng unveiled four updated vehicles featuring 3D lane-level navigation, hazard alerts that detect dangers beyond the driver’s line of sight, and improved autonomous driving.
  • The company says integrated AI built on its in-house Turing chip will power cars, robotaxis and humanoids, and robotaxis are planned to use four Turing chips delivering about 3,000 TOPS.
  • Xpeng plans to offer its robotaxi service through Alibaba’s Amap platform and has discussed open-sourcing its Vision-Language-Action model.
  • The strategic shift follows heavy price competition and a reported third-quarter net loss of 380 million yuan, with a previously stated end-2025 break-even goal still unconfirmed.
