Xavier Worthy Nearing Full Recovery After January Labrum Surgery

A stronger, more disciplined Worthy could be pivotal for a Chiefs passing game that made only modest receiver moves this offseason.

Overview

  • Worthy said his January surgery to repair a torn labrum was successful and that rehab has helped him build strength and focus on the mental side of the game.
  • The shoulder injury began on the third play of the Chiefs’ season opener in Week 1 of 2025 when his shoulder was dislocated, and he played much of last year limited by the damage.
  • He wore a yellow non-contact jersey during OTAs and mandatory minicamp but took part in limited drills, including some 7-on-7 work with Patrick Mahomes, as he inches toward full activity.
  • Kansas City’s receiver room remains thin after only modest offseason moves and Rashee Rice’s absence from most of the offseason program, increasing the importance of Worthy’s recovery.
  • Training camp, which starts in late July, is the practical deadline teams and physicians will use to judge whether Worthy is ready to return without restrictions for the 2026 season.
