X Ends Creator Revenue Sharing and Launches Original Content Rewards

The company says the program will pay only for original work by paid, verified users to reduce reposting and engagement‑farming.

Overview

  • X closed new enrollments on Aug. 7 and will wind the old Creator Revenue Sharing program down by Sept. 7, with final payouts on the regular schedule in mid‑ and late‑August and a last payment expected around Sept. 11.
  • The replacement, called Original Content Rewards, requires creators to hold a Premium subscription, have at least 500 verified followers, and record 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the prior 90 days.
  • Earnings under the new plan are tied to “qualified impressions,” defined as unique views from paid, verified Premium subscribers on the Home Timeline where at least half the post is visible, while duplicate, promoted or fraudulent impressions will not count.
  • X will open applications through Creator Studio on Sept. 8 initially to existing revenue‑sharing creators, offers reviews within about three business days, allows one appeal for denials and a 90‑day wait to reapply, and plans biweekly payouts with the first scheduled for Aug. 28 and staggered start dates for later enrollees.
  • The change reflects repeated attempts to curb abuse of the old ad‑revenue split by reposting and engagement farming, and it is likely to shrink the pool of paid creators because of the Premium and verified‑impression thresholds while leaving enforcement and the definition of “original” partly discretionary.
