X Adds In-App Video Editor on iOS to Promote Original Video Creation

X hopes easier in-app editing will push creators toward native clips and reduce reposted material while the company still needs to prove the change will alter creator behavior.

X rolled out a new Video Editor and Recorder in its iOS app that includes multilingual overlay captions, customizable caption styling, green-screen backgrounds drawn from photos or other posts, trimming tools, and auto-generated captions.
The company says the update is intended to encourage original creator posts and reward authors as video now accounts for roughly half of impressions on the service.
Industry reporting notes the editor reduces friction for making native clips but does not add features that creators rely on to protect or monetize work, such as formal takedown tools, automatic attribution, or robust revenue programs offered by TikTok, Meta, and YouTube.
X remains challenged by large volumes of bots and spam that inflate views and scrape content, with the company previously reporting it was identifying and suspending about 208 bots per minute.
