Wrong-Way US-23 Crash Kills 60-Year-Old Driver, Seriously Injures Two Teens

The sheriff’s office has opened an investigation, requesting public tips.

  • The collision occurred just before 10 p.m. Saturday on northbound US-23 south of Sterns Road in Whiteford Township, Michigan.
  • A Ford Escape traveling south in the northbound lane struck a northbound Ford F-150 head-on, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
  • The Escape’s driver, identified as Rhonda L. Bartnik, 60, of Ottawa Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • An 18-year-old man driving the F-150 and a 17-year-old girl riding with him, both from Dundee, were hospitalized in serious condition.
