Overview
- The collision occurred Monday around 11:30 a.m. at milepost 4 just west of Loma when a Subaru Outback traveling east in the westbound lanes struck a Ford F-150 head-on.
- The Subaru driver, a 32-year-old woman from Colorado Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car rolled down an embankment and caught fire.
- The Ford driver and five passengers, including a 13-year-old and a 10-year-old girl, were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.
- First responders extinguished the vehicle fire, closed westbound I-70 and set a detour while crews cleared the scene and reopened the road several hours later.
- The Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation and the Mesa County Coroner will complete formal identification and notify next of kin.
