Wrexham Parents Jailed for Eight Years Over Neglect Death of Daughter

The judge said weeks of neglect left Steffie Davies septic, severely malnourished, bed-bound, then dead in her parents' home.

Overview

  • Alan and Bernita Davies, both 60, received eight years’ immediate custody, with two thirds to be served before release on licence.
  • The couple admitted causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult after initial gross negligence manslaughter charges were not pursued.
  • A pathologist found Steffie, 32, died from sepsis due to infected pressure ulcers, very low body weight and poor nutrition; ulcers had been present for at least six weeks.
  • Evidence described her as almost skeletal at 5ft 7in and 5st 9lb, likely dead for several days, with a sodden bed, matted hair with possible lice eggs, and suspected fungal skin infections.
  • Mrs Justice Mary Stacey cited high culpability and a lack of genuine remorse, saying the parents carried on with their lives as their daughter starved; Wrexham Council will liaise with the North Wales Safeguarding Board to consider a review.
