Overview
- The WoW: Forever beta, which launched Thursday, Sept. 17, was immediately hit with hour-long login queues, tens of thousands in lines and repeated disconnects that pushed many players back to the end of the queue.
- Developers including Tom Ellis and Clayton Stone publicly acknowledged the load problems and said Blizzard is adding servers and making technical fixes to stabilize the test environment.
- Guaranteed beta access is tied to paid preorders (Skyborne Epic and Warcraft Epic packs), and players outside North America complained that the test used mostly US-based servers, causing high ping, VPN workarounds and some refund requests.
- The beta is phased with a current level cap of 20, a planned raise to 30 after about two weeks, a testing window through Oct. 21, and a full launch scheduled for Nov. 4, with beta progress not carrying over to launch characters.
- Players who entered reported lag, GPU crashes and other bugs while developers posted a known-issues thread and pushed fixes, making early stability a key test of Blizzard's ability to protect player trust ahead of release.
