World Team Tennis Relaunches With Three Branded Clubs and Marquee Players

A short December schedule with a player-equity ownership model seeks to lure top ATP and WTA players back to team competition.

Overview

  • WTT on Thursday, Aug. 20 announced three club identities—Florida Flamingos Racquet Club, New York Empire Racquet Club and Toronto North Racquet Club—and named Jessica Pegula, Tommy Paul and Denis Shapovalov as the marquee players tied to those clubs.
  • The league set venues at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Coca‑Cola Coliseum in Toronto and Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, and said it will stage six events in a compressed, three-week December window.
  • Matches will use a single-set, no-ad format made up of four singles sets (men’s and women’s No. 1 and No. 2) followed by a mixed-doubles super tiebreaker to shorten play and create more dramatic, fan-friendly windows.
  • WTT introduced a player-equity ownership model that pairs base pay and bonuses with a share in the league to encourage participation during the small offseason break on the ATP and WTA calendars.
  • Full team rosters and a finalized match schedule have not yet been released, and the league says the three-club relaunch will be evaluated for future expansion based on player participation and commercial traction.
