World Rolls Out Major World ID Upgrade as Zoom and Tinder Add Human Verification

The push targets rising deepfake fraud across everyday apps.

Overview

  • World, which scans irises with its Orb to issue a cryptographic World ID, announced Friday a protocol redesign, a public beta of a standalone World ID app, an open‑source SDK, and AgentKit to let people delegate proof‑of‑human to AI agents.
  • Zoom is adding World’s Deep Face check that matches an Orb enrollment image, a live face scan from the user’s device, and a current video frame before showing a “Verified Human” badge, with hosts able to require a special waiting room.
  • Tinder is expanding a pilot into a global rollout of a “verified human” profile badge for users who verify with World ID, with the company offering five free profile boosts as an incentive in some markets.
  • A new Concert Kit lets artists hold back a pool of tickets for verified humans to blunt scalper bots, with the first run planned on Bruno Mars’ upcoming tour and support for major ticketing platforms through access codes.
  • World says roughly 18 million people in about 160 countries have verified so far, though the Orb’s in‑person iris and face scans and data practices face ongoing scrutiny from regulators in countries that have paused or limited operations.
