Worker Killed, Another Injured in Chairlift Maintenance Fall at Mt. Hood Skibowl

State regulators have opened a workplace-safety investigation.

  • Two Mt. Hood Skibowl employees fell from the Upper Bowl chairlift Thursday around 9:30 a.m. when a maintenance basket, a small work platform used for repairs, dropped into steep terrain.

  • A third employee began CPR before rescuers arrived, and crews used ATVs and an air ambulance to reach the remote, rugged slope.
  • The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office classified the case as a workplace death, and Oregon OSHA was notified to examine the equipment and how the work was conducted.
  • Authorities have not released the name of the deceased, and officials have not provided an update on the surviving worker's condition.
