Overview
- A woman in her 50s was stabbed during the rosary before 10am Mass at Holy Cross Church in Summerhill, Tramore on Tuesday and was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
- Gardaí arrested a man in his 30s at a nearby residence, seized a knife for forensic examination and charged him to appear at Waterford District Court on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026.
- Officers have appealed for anyone who was in the Summerhill area between 9:15am and 10:15am or who has camera or dash-cam footage to contact Tramore Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
- The Diocese of Waterford & Lismore and the parish priest said they were deeply shocked, praised parishioners who assisted and asked the community to pray for the injured worshipper.
- Investigations are continuing under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 with forensic tests and witness statements forming the central evidence as police determine motive and next steps.
