Woman Killed When Van Hits Broken-Down Car on A419

A police probe will examine why a broken-down vehicle on a busy regional route was struck.

Overview

  • The collision, which occurred on Friday, June 5, involved a Vauxhall Vivaro striking a Toyota Aygo on the northbound A419 near the White Hart roundabout and left the Toyota driver dead at the scene.
  • Emergency services including police, paramedics and an air ambulance attended and the woman, reported to be in her 30s, was declared dead while the van driver suffered no reported serious injuries.
  • Wiltshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Team is leading an active inquiry, has informed and is supporting the victim's next of kin, and is asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them quoting log number 61.
  • The A419 was closed in both directions for the police examination, causing long queues on the key route linking Swindon to the M4 and routes into Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds before carriageways were later reopened.
  • Local reports have named the victim as nurse and mother Sarah Crook and a community fundraiser has been set up to support her family as the investigation continues.
