Woman Dead, Man Hospitalized in Osage House Fire as Cause Is Investigated

Authorities have opened a State Fire Marshal investigation with names to be released after autopsy.

Overview

  • Deputies received a 911 call around 4:24 a.m. Wednesday for a structure fire along State Highway 34 in Osage, about 30 miles east of Detroit Lakes.
  • A resident flagged down a passing motorist to report that a woman might still be inside the burning home.
  • Firefighters later found the woman deceased inside, and a man from the residence was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids for smoke inhalation and possible burns.
  • Carsonville Fire Rescue, the Park Rapids Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance and the Becker County Sheriff’s Office responded to the emergency.
  • The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause, and officials have withheld victim identities pending autopsy results.
