Woman Arrested in Gurugram Hospital Acid Attack After Mistaken Identity, Police Say

Police say hospital CCTV identified Sakshi as the suspect in a case tied to a dispute over her husband’s former girlfriend.

Overview

  • The attack occurred Sunday evening at Gurugram Civil Hospital, where a corrosive toilet cleaner was thrown on a 32-year-old woman from behind, causing burns to her shoulder, neck, cheek and arms.
  • The injured woman received emergency care, was referred to PGIMS Rohtak for evaluation, and was discharged in stable condition, according to officials.
  • Police said they arrested Sakshi, 25, of Rewari district, alleging she mistook the patient for her husband’s ex-girlfriend and threw the substance after searching the hospital with a photo.
  • Investigators initially detained the victim’s partner, Pawan, who admitted to an earlier assault but denied the acid attack; he remains booked in a separate case and under questioning.
  • An FIR for the acid attack was registered at Sector 10 police station under BNS Section 124(1), with additional cases filed over the prior assaults as officers analyze CCTV and witness statements.
