Woman Arrested After Unexplained Death of Man and Several Dogs in West Derby Home

Toxicology tests are under way as police appeal for the man's next of kin to help establish the cause of death.

Overview

  • The discovery, which took place on Friday evening, June 5, found a man in his 70s dead inside a Coachmans Drive address and several dogs in the property, some of which had died.
  • A 55-year-old West Derby woman was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, carer ill-treatment or wilful neglect, and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and she has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
  • A post-mortem has been completed and toxicology tests are ongoing to determine how the man died, and those results will guide whether further charges are brought.
  • Emergency services preserved the scene over the weekend, with officers stationed outside and a Merseyside Fire and Rescue tent placed on the driveway while investigators processed evidence.
  • The RSPCA is liaising with Merseyside Police and officers are asking anyone who may know the man or who has information to contact Merseyside Police or give anonymous tips to Crimestoppers.
