Woman, 60, Airlifted After 50m Fall on Raven Crag

The rescue highlights reliance on volunteer teams supported by a seasonal Coastguard helicopter.

Overview

  • Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, alerted at 10:15am on Sunday, responded after the 60-year-old tumbled about 50 metres below Raven Crag in Gillercomb.
  • Coastguard Rescue 895 from Carlisle was requested because of the terrain and potential severity, and the helicopter paramedic gave on-scene care.
  • The casualty was packaged for a winch pick up and flown to hospital after sustaining severe cuts to her head.
  • Fifteen Keswick volunteers took part in the rescue, which lasted three and a half hours and was logged as the team’s 46th callout of 2026.
  • Rescue 895 is an AW189 helicopter added for the April to September summer roster to handle higher search-and-rescue demand between 9am and 9pm.
