Overview
- Wizz Air announced on Wednesday that it will open bases in Madrid and Valencia with services from early November to expand its presence in Spain.
- The airline confirmed routes linking Santiago de Compostela (Lavacolla) with Madrid, Valencia and Bilbao and said Madrid services to Asturias, Palma and Santiago will start on November 3–4 using two new A321neo aircraft.
- Valencia’s base will be operational from November 2 and the airline listed additional new routes from that city while projecting more than 80 direct jobs and over 2,500 indirect jobs tied to the base.
- Wizz Air has published cabin-crew selection dates for late July and mid‑August to staff the new operations and advertised low base fares for the routes starting in November.
- A proposed Luton–Vigo service stalled after local administrations failed to agree on a subsidy formula estimated at about €600,000 a year, and the expansion follows Aena’s December change to regional incentive rules that made Santiago eligible for higher per‑passenger bonuses.
