Overview
- Four trial witnesses filed a Massachusetts Superior Court complaint accusing Karen Read and blogger Aidan Kearney of creating and spreading a false story that blamed them for John O’Keefe’s death.
- The plaintiffs are Jennifer McCabe, Boston police officer Brian Albert, his nephew Colin Albert, and ATF agent Brian Higgins.
- McCabe, Brian Albert, and Higgins were part of a group drinking with Read and O’Keefe the night before he was found, and the Alberts owned the home where he was discovered.
- The plaintiffs say a campaign of posts and claims led to harassment and intimidation of them and their families, and they seek to hold the defendants responsible.
- Read was charged in 2022, the first trial ended in a mistrial, and she was acquitted at a retrial last year; she also faces a separate wrongful-death suit by O’Keefe’s family that, like this new case, proceeds under a lower civil burden of proof.
