Witness Details Emails and Rehab Claim in Sheena Bora Trial as Defence Challenges Digital Evidence

Lawyers questioned the Section 65B certification for the emails, putting the witness’s electronic records under scrutiny.

Overview

  • Prosecution witness Sanjana Phukan produced emails in which Sheena spoke of strained ties with Indrani Mukerjea, alleged job interference and wrong medication, and said she wanted to “take sanyas.”
  • Phukan recounted that she last spoke to Sheena on April 15, 2012, then received texts from Sheena’s phone on April 24–25 about breaking up with Rahul and changing her number, after which calls went unanswered.
  • She told the court that Rahul Mukerjea said he had dropped Sheena to meet Indrani in Bandra on April 24 and that he struggled to lodge a missing complaint after Sheena did not return.
  • Under cross-examination, Phukan said her cousin, a lawyer, advised Rahul to file a missing report and a habeas corpus petition and offered help, but Rahul did not proceed with it.
  • Phukan testified that between 2013 and 2015 Mikhail Bora told her Sheena was alive in a Pune rehabilitation centre on Indrani’s instructions, and she also mentioned a sibling property dispute and the siblings’ adoption by their grandparents.
