Wisconsin Sen. André Jacque Won’t Seek Reelection

The exit deepens a GOP turnover in the Legislature without putting his northeastern seat in play.

Overview

  • Jacque, a Republican from New Franken, said he will not run again and plans to finish his term this year.
  • He becomes the sixth GOP senator to step aside as other Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, also forgo reelection.
  • His district spans Door and Kewaunee counties and parts of Brown, Calumet, Manitowoc and Outagamie, and it is expected to remain in Republican hands.
  • He has served in the Senate since 2019 after eight years in the Assembly and says he authored more than 100 laws, including 20-plus as lead sponsor in the most recent session.
  • He ran in the 2024 Republican primary for the 8th Congressional District and finished third, and he says he has not decided on his next step after leaving office.
