Windrose Patch Cuts Excessive Disk Writes After SSD Wear Fears

The update targets nonstop save writes caused by the game's database setup.

Overview

  • Kraken Express released patches that cut in‑game disk writes and added automatic backups every 10 minutes.
  • Independent tester Pixel Operative measured a 60–75% drop, with sailing now around 10–16 MB/s and roughly 20–30 writes per second, and far lower when idle.
  • Before the fix, tests showed the game writing about 108GB per hour and far more data than Enshrouded or Valheim over the same span.
  • Reporting attributes the heavy load to a RocksDB‑based save system with three databases and a very small cache that forced frequent writes to disk.
  • The game remains in Early Access and has sold about 1.5 million copies, widening the pool of players who could have been affected and intensifying community scrutiny.
