Overview
- Windows 10 shows processor, RAM, device name, system type, Windows version and installation date via Control Panel → System or Settings → System → Info.
- Microsoft removed the graphical Windows Experience Index in Windows 10 because it no longer reflects modern hardware, with performance data now available only via command line or PowerShell.
- Windows 7 lists core specs and still displays the Windows Experience Index, but it has not received security updates since January 2020 and is considered insecure.
- Typing msinfo32 opens System Information with detailed hardware resources, installed drivers, system conflicts and Windows error reports for troubleshooting.
- On Windows XP, System Information is found under Start → All Programs → Accessories → System Tools, and the desktop can show the OS version by setting PAINTDESKTOPVERSION=1 at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
