Windows 11 Adds Native Internet Speed Test in Quick Settings

The Experimental Insider build reports download, upload, ping results inside Quick Settings to avoid redirecting users to a browser.

Overview

  • Microsoft rolled the feature out to Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel on Monday with Preview build 26340.9767, exposing the new Speed test button in Quick Settings.
  • Users can start a test from the Speed test Quick Setting, the Wi‑Fi or Cellular flyout, or by right‑clicking the network icon and selecting Test internet speed.
  • Quick Settings shows test progress and reports download speed, upload speed, and ping against the active connection so users can check performance without opening a browser.
  • The native test replaces the prior Quick Settings shortcut that opened Bing and appears to use the same SPEEDTEST/Ookla backend according to Microsoft’s tooltip and linked privacy policy.
  • The tool is experimental and may change or be removed based on Insider feedback, and the same Preview build also adds feature flags, Quick Settings phone access, a Magnifier shortcut, and easier Microsoft 365 access.
