Wildfire in Tarachi Grows to About 1,200 Hectares as Crews Ramp Up Response

State and federal brigades are expanding ground and air logistics to secure the perimeter and protect nearby ranches and communities.

Overview

  • The Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil reports the fire in the Tarachi area of Arivechi has burned roughly 1,202 hectares and is about 35% under control with 25% liquidation.
  • Authorities have increased field personnel to 73 combatants drawn from CONAFOR, SEDENA, municipal brigades and private mine brigades to strengthen suppression efforts.
  • Officials are using and evaluating aerial support, including a helicopter with a helibalde for water drops, and have set up fuel and supply staging in Guásimopa to sustain operations in the mountain terrain.
  • Local reports say the fire has advanced toward the hills of ejido Tarachi, the community of La Iglesia and ranches in the Tacupeto valley; authorities say populated centers are not in immediate danger and communities are collecting supplies for brigades.
  • The blaze is one of the larger active fires in Sonora, which accounts for a significant share of the country’s ongoing wildfires, even as state officials note 2026 has seen fewer and smaller fires so far compared with 2025.
