Overview
- On 13 March 2025 paramedics found 84-year-old David Berman with a fatal stab wound at his Butterstile Lane home and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Police arrested his wife, 72-year-old Daryl Berman, five days later after a post-mortem examination raised concerns about how the injury was sustained.
- Home Office pathologist Dr Philip Lumb told the court the chest wound had 'typical features of a homicide' and said an accidental fall was very unlikely to have caused it.
- Prosecution evidence at the retrial included phone records showing Mrs Berman unlocked her phone 25 seconds before calling 999 and a gap of more than six minutes before she began CPR.
- A Minshull Street Crown Court jury convicted Mrs Berman of murder by an 11–1 majority on 23 June 2026 and she remains remanded until sentencing on 3 July where the Crown will seek a life term.
