Wichita Man Indicted Over Facebook Death Threat Against Rep. Ilhan Omar

A Facebook emergency disclosure led investigators to the suspect ahead of a Feb. 4 detention and arraignment hearing.

Overview

  • Adam Lee Osborn, 60, of Wichita was indicted on one count of interstate communications containing a threat to injure and one count of threatening a federal official.
  • Prosecutors say a Jan. 23 social-media post stated an intent to kill Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Facebook’s voluntary emergency disclosure linked the post to Osborn’s account.
  • According to investigators, Osborn acknowledged writing the posts and described hoping they would provoke others to commit violence.
  • The Wichita Police Department, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and FBI are investigating; Osborn had his initial federal court appearance on Jan. 26 and remains in custody.
  • In a separate Wichita case, a federal grand jury also indicted Joaquin Hernandez, 23, for online threats against ICE agents.
