Overview
- Whole Foods Market, which announced the move Wednesday, will open a Daily Shop at 111 Harbor Way in Boston’s Seaport and has not given an opening date or store size.
- Daily Shop is a scaled-down grocery built for dense neighborhoods, stocking high-demand items with produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods, bakery goods, and pantry staples for fast trips.
- In Philadelphia, the company signed a lease at 2221–2225 South Street for a Daily Shop and said Chicago is also slated for the format over the next two years.
- The grocer says it operates more than 550 stores and plans roughly 100 more in the coming years, and Amazon has indicated some closed Amazon Fresh sites could be converted to Whole Foods locations.
- In Boston’s Seaport, the store will compete with Trader Joe’s and specialty markets like Cardullo’s and Fort Point Market, offering nearby residents another option for quick grocery runs.
