Overview
- A blue Nissan Qashqai moved off from traffic lights and mounted the kerb into the pedestrianised section of Market Street on Sunday, 12 July, striking three people.
- Stephen (Steven) Cameron, 50, of Huddersfield, who was using a wheelchair, was pronounced dead at the scene; a 31-year-old man remains in hospital with serious but not life-threatening head injuries and a 13-year-old boy suffered minor injuries.
- The 30-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and other traffic offences, interviewed and then released on police bail while enquiries continue.
- Detective Sergeant Nina Roper and the Major Collision Enquiry Team are investigating how and why the vehicle mounted the kerb and have asked the public for CCTV, dashcam or phone footage, quoting police reference 13260396046.
