Overview
- WhatsApp began rolling the new label to some channel admins on Android and iOS beta builds during the Aug. 30–31 testing window, with availability limited to select testers for now.
- Channel admins can add the tag from a long-press context menu option called “Add AI content label,” and the tag appears on the update bubble so all followers see it immediately.
- Once applied the label cannot be removed, and WhatsApp defines covered content as any images, videos or other media created or edited using any AI tool, including examples like ChatGPT and Gemini.
- WhatsApp may automatically detect AI-generated media and apply the label in some cases, and the app surfaces when labeling is legally required for admins in affected countries but has not published a full rollout schedule or country list.
- The label follows other disclosure tools such as the paid partnership tag and is meant to boost transparency for followers and help admins comply with rules, with wider rollout and enforcement effects to watch for as the feature expands.
