Overview
- WhatsApp announced on August 4 that it is rolling out three group-chat upgrades: an @all mention, expanded poll controls, and a 'Create a similar group' one-tap option.
- The @all mention sends a notification to every group member even in muted chats, but WhatsApp limits the feature to admins in groups with more than 32 people and lets users mute @all alerts in notification settings.
- Polls now support a set end time that locks voting, an option to hide voter names so responses stay anonymous, and a 15-minute window to edit the poll question after posting.
- The new one-tap group creation fills a group from members of an existing chat so users can spin off side conversations quickly without adding people one by one.
- The changes are rolling out to iOS and Android users now, build on earlier 2026 group tools like message history and tags, and could reduce clutter while raising new trade-offs between ensuring urgent messages are seen and limiting interruptions.
