Overview
- The assault began on 30 September 2025 on a communal staircase in Sturminster Newton when Joshua Moore kicked a woman and a male friend intervened.
- The man who stepped in was stabbed three times with a four‑inch lock knife and was taken to hospital with wounds to his body and arm while the woman suffered bruising around her eye.
- Moore fled the county, dyed his blond hair jet black to try to hide his identity, and was traced to a hotel in Petersfield, Hampshire on 2 October before being arrested.
- Following a trial, Moore was convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating and was sentenced to five years in prison on 5 June 2026.
- Detective Constable Emma Oram said the case underlines the potentially fatal nature of knife attacks and will be used by Dorset Police in efforts to raise awareness and deter similar crimes.
