Western Railway Restores Kandivali Link After Certification Lapse, Keeps Limited Cancellations Under Speed Curbs

Weeklong speed limits remain after a 5 am safety clearance.

Overview

  • Engineers failed to secure a mandatory 'line-fit' certificate for the new Kandivali crossover, isolating the car shed and disrupting suburban operations.
  • Western Railway cancelled 102 local trains on Tuesday, then withdrew only 30 services on Wednesday once the crossover was certified fit around 5 am.
  • The first restored MaladChurchgate fast departed at 9:06 am on Wednesday following the clearance, with most services back on track.
  • Mandatory speed restrictions on the newly laid line are expected for about a week, so a small number of cancellations and detentions will continue.
  • From January 26 to March 7, the Karnavati Express will originate and terminate at Bandra Terminus, and the AhmedabadMumbai Vande Bharat will run with 20 coaches.
