Overview
- Western Railway, working with the city civic body, finished the under-track upgrade over the weekend during a 36-hour block that also covered key track and crossing repairs.
- Engineers swapped a narrow 300 mm line for new 1,200 mm pipes at Culvert 22, removing a long-standing choke point beneath the Bandra–Bandra Terminus line.
- Reports say the upgrade will raise discharge roughly two to four times, which should ease chronic waterlogging in Navpada and help suburban trains keep moving in heavy rain.
- Crews cleared about 1,100 to 1,200 cubic metres of silt and garbage across roughly 500 metres before laying the new pipeline.
- Work in the cramped Navpada corridor forced teams to lift track, abandon micro-tunnelling, and reroute signalling, telecom and power cables, with about 70 workers and heavy machines on site.
