Overview
- The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for Delhi on Thursday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, dust squalls and gusty winds up to about 70–80 km/h through June 11–13.
- IMD and other forecasters say a western disturbance moving into northwest India is driving a wet spell through June 13 with thundersqualls, isolated hailstorms and gusts that may reach 80 km/h in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and adjoining hill states.
- The Pakistan Meteorological Department kept a heatwave warning for most districts of Sindh through June 12 even as it forecast rain, thunderstorms and strong winds for much of Pakistan from June 11–13 as the westerly system arrives.
- The southwest monsoon continues to advance in the south with heavy to very heavy rain expected in Kerala and parts of the northeast and coastal warnings in force that include fishing advisories along the Kerala–Karnataka–Lakshadweep coast.
- Authorities warned of a 3–5°C drop in northwest maximum temperatures, plus risks to weak infrastructure, urban flooding and landslides, and advised residents, farmers and fishers to follow local safety and travel advisories.
