Westbound Will Clayton Parkway to Close Overnight for IAH Concrete Repairs

Overnight lane closures are expected to slow access to George Bush Intercontinental Airport with officials urging drivers to follow posted signs and use JFK Boulevard as an alternate route.

Overview

  • Houston Airport System announced preparatory work began on Monday, Aug. 24, with major concrete demolition and repairs scheduled for Aug. 25–28 on the westbound lanes of the 6100 block of Will Clayton Parkway.
  • During the repair period crews will close two of the three westbound lanes overnight between Kenswick Drive and Lee Road and aim to reopen all lanes by Friday afternoon.
  • Airport officials said the biggest traffic impacts will occur overnight and advised drivers to allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs.
  • Officials recommended JFK Boulevard as the primary alternate route for travelers to and from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to avoid delays.
  • Will Clayton Parkway is a key access road to IAH so the closures could slow drop-offs, pick-ups and shuttle traffic and officials expect the short multi-night work to restore the roadway’s concrete surface.
